Sania retires from tennis and leaves a huge mark and a lasting legacy. She has been far ahead of every other Indian woman who has played tennis.

She wasn’t quite able to beat everyone on the tennis court. But at her best, she was head and shoulders above the other players.

  • Sania rose to prominence for the first time at a time when the Williams sisters were revolutionising the game by playing with force and strength.
  • Sania reached her greatest ranking of No.27 in the year 2005.
  • She remained in the top 32 for most of the four years (2005-2008) that she competed.
  • She won three matches that ranked in the top 10.
  • In addition, she claimed her one and only WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) championship in Hyderabad between February 2005 and September 2006.
  • In the middle of 2012, she was forced to move to play doubles because of an ongoing wrist ailment.
  • She was ranked number one in the world for 91 weeks.
  • Sania won six Grand Slam titles (three in doubles and three in mixed doubles).
  • Furthermore, she finished in runner-up position six times, including at the 2023 Australian Open, which was her final major tournament appearance.
  • She has unquestionably led the way for everyone else.
