Saudi Arabia lifts travel restrictions on women

Saudi Arabia lifts travel restrictions on womenSaudi Arabia has announced that all women, over the age of 21, will now be allowed to travel independently. They can now obtain passports and travel abroad without their male guardian's permission.

The changes in the rule will now also allow women to register their children's births, as well as marriages and divorces.
 	Additionally, they also cover employment regulations that will increase opportunities for work for women. As per the new rule, all citizens have the right to work regardless of gender, disability or age.

The Ministry of Information has announced that these rules will come into effect at the end of August 2019.

Male guardianship system in Suadi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has a male guardianship system that gives husbands, fathers and other male relatives, authority over women. Women could not marry, renew their passports or go abroad without the permission of their male guardian.

Last year, Saudi Arabia also lifted a driving ban on women for the first time.
