Scientists discover way to convert plastic into fuel

Scientists at Washington State University, US have invented a process to transform daily plastic waste into jet fuel (fuel used in aircraft).

For this process, scientists melted plastic waste at high temperature along with carbon.

How was this research carried out?

Plastic contains a lot of hydrogen, which is a key component in fuel.
 	Plastic products from daily life like water bottles, milk bottles, and plastic bags were used for this experiment.
 	Plastic waste was cut into very small pieces and then melted with carbon at a high temperature, from 430 degree Celsius to 571 degree Celsius.
 	The end product will be a mixture of 85% jet fuel and 15% diesel fuel.
 	The product has to be separated to get jet fuel. If it is not separated, then it will remain as diesel fuel.

Scientists say that the obtained fuel is very good quality and will be very useful.

This conversion process can be easily applied by anyone.
 	After melting the plastic, used carbon can be reused to burn the next batch of plastic waste.

This new process has given hope for reducing plastic waste efficiently.
