Scientists find over 100 harmful substances in children’s plastic toys

People have long been worried about the harmful chemicals used in plastic toys in different parts of the world.

In a new, international study, scientists have found that there are over 100 “Chemicals of Concern” in plastic toy materials. These could be bad for children’s health.

The study says that they found 419 chemicals in plastic materials used in children toys. Out of them, scientists found 126 substances that can potentially harm children’s health.

According to the researchers, laws in many countries do not approve the use of certain potentially toxic chemicals in plastic toys. However, there is no common law internationally.

Of the 126 harmful chemicals they found in the study, 27 are already not approved but they still show up in toys.

Some of the harmful chemicals found are also known as “regrettable substitutions”.

What are regrettable substitutions in toys?

Regrettable substitutions are chemicals that are used to replace the harmful ones in products but turn out to be harmful themselves.

What can we do to fix the issue?

The researchers said that there needs to be a common list of chemicals that should be banned internationally for making toys. However, the most simple thing to do would be to stop giving children too many plastic toys.
