Scotland’s cricket team

Did you know, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is currently underway in the United Arab Emirates and Oman? It started on 17 October 2021 and will go on till 14 November 2021.

This T20 cricket world cup was supposed to have been held in India. But due to the pandemic, they changed the venue.

Scotland is one of the teams playing at the T20 World Cup this year. This is the first time at the T20 world cup for Scotland’s cricket team. But they are doing well, having won their first two matches and are top of the table.

Scotland’s cricket team shared another piece of good news on Twitter recently. The jersey (shirt) that the team is wearing was designed by a 12-year-old girl! The girl’s name is Rebecca Downie and Cricket Scotland said they are very thankful to her. They also posted Rebecca’s photograph wearing the jersey on Twitter.

A competition

Cricket Scotland had actually held a competition asking school children to send in their ideas for the team’s jersey (shirt). And Rebecca won the contest!

The jersey has different patterns in shades of purple and it is inspired by Scotland’s national emblem, the thistle.

What is the thistle plant?

The thistel is a wild plant with purple flowers and sharp points (prickles) on its leaves.

Do you think India should also have such a contest? What do you think the Indian cricket team jersey should look like? Tell us about it on My Expressions at Curious Times.
