Singapore says no to ‘ranks’ in schoolsThe Government of Singapore has decided to stop ranking system in schools.

Singapore's Education Minister, Ong Ye Kung proposed this idea in order to reduce competition in learning. There will no longer be any ranks given on academic report cards.

How will this system work?

The new report card will indicate only pass or fail along with total marks scored at the end of the academic year.

There will be no examinations for a few primary grades.
 	For lower grades, students will be analysed by their characteristics and values.
 	For higher grades, the teacher can evaluate the progress of a student through home works, discussions and quizzes.
 	Report cards will be handed over to parents during the PTM (Parent-teacher meetings).

This transition will help students to concentrate on learning rather than competing.

This change overall will try to help develop the habit of self-discipline and not focus on students comparing themselves with others.
