Smartphones help rescue workers in need!

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Greetings young reader! Did you know that some amazing young people from Odisha in India are using their smartphones to help rescue fellow workers who are in trouble?

That’s right! These people are called bonded laborers. They have been held against their will and treated terribly by their bosses. But now, they are using technology to fight back!

Important Details

  • The bonded laborers from Odisha have formed a group called Shramavahini, which means “messenger of labor.” They use their smartphones to alert the authorities when they hear about someone in trouble. They post messages on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp to get help quickly.
  • Sadly, the practice of holding people hostage as bonded laborers is not new in this region. People have been subjected to terrible conditions like harassment, physical torture, and not being paid what they are owed. But now, thanks to these brave people, things are changing!
  • The Shramavahini group has over 4,000 members who work together to make sure that the government responds quickly when someone needs help. They want to make sure that no one loses their life or gets hurt because they couldn’t get help in time.
  • These amazing young people have also learned how to use social media sites to reach out to mainstream media organizations when they need to. They act as a bridge between the source state and the destination state.
  • The Shramavahini group was formed when many laborers were rescued but did not receive the assistance they were entitled to. It’s amazing to see how technology can be used for good, isn’t it? These young people are true heroes, and they are making a real difference in the world. Keep on being awesome!
