Desert pea – Unique Flowers!Swainsona Formosa or the Sturt's Desert pea is South Australia's state flower. Desert Pea is known for its blood-red flower with a bulbous centre known as the 'boss'.
Key facts!

Desert peas grow in the hot dry regions of central and western Australia.
They spread across the ground like a vine and have long tap roots which can go deep down into the soil in search of water.
Desert peas grow well in free-draining soil made of sand and rocks.
This flower is not meant to be eaten, but it is ideal as a cut flower.
They can last almost 30 days in water.
The plant flowers from Spring to Summer, especially after rain.
Desert peas are pollinated by birds in the wild.
People also love to draw and photograph this beautiful flower.
