Studies show Amazon deforestation rate is highest in last ten yearsThe Amazon Rainforest is the largest forest in the world. However, a while ago, we read about its disastrous forest fires. Now, studies show that the rate of deforestation this year is also the highest in the last 10 years.

Every year, some deforestation does take place in the Amazon Rainforest. But this year, it was found that more trees were cut from August 2018 to July 2019, than in any other year.
 	This year, forest area that measures about 2 football fields was cut every minute. This is the fastest rate of cutting the forests down since 2008.
 	In numbers, that is a 29.5% increase in deforestation compared to last year. It is also the highest since 2008.
 	People cut down trees for wood, mining, grazing, for agriculture and selling land.

The largest part of the Amazon Rainforest lies in the country of Brazil. The government found this information from the Prodes satellite system.

People who care for the environment are requesting the Brazilian government to make stricter rules and laws to stop deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest.
