Sudan swears in new Cabinet

Sudan swears in new CabinetOn 8th September, Sudan swore in its first Cabinet since President Omar al-Bashir's removal in April.

The Cabinet is part of a power-sharing agreement between the military and pro-democracy demonstrators. They will also form a joint military-civilian sovereign council and a legislative body within 3 months.

Eighteen Cabinet ministers were sworn in before Sudan’s top judge, Babaker Abbas.
 	The new members include Sudan’s first woman foreign minister, Asmaa Abdalla, along with three other women.
 	The Cabinet will have 20 members in total after PM Hamdok makes the final decision.
 	Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and General Abdel-Fattah Burhan, the head of the sovereign council, were also present at the ceremony.
 	Gen. Burhan also headed a joint ceremonial meeting of the Cabinet and the sovereign council.

Sudan's new administration faces many urgent challenges.

Sudan's finances are the top priority as it has a debt of nearly US$60 billion. PM Hamdok has said that Sudan needs up to $8 billion in foreign aid in the next two years.
 	New Finance Minister Ibrahim Elbadawi said that they would carry out “urgent measures” in the first 200 days to “restructure the budget, control prices and tackle youth unemployment.”
 	Another important task is establishing peace agreements with rebel armed groups within six months.
