Sudan’s President of 30 years finally removed after people’s protest

The autocratic* and unpopular leader Omar al-Bashir was forced to resign after the Sudanese people carried out huge demonstrations and protests against his rule.

He had ruled the vast country of Sudan, a North African country, as president for 30 years.

He was removed by the army on April 11, 2019 .

Famine, war and increasing food prices had made people unhappy and angry.
 	In December 2018, the high price of bread led to big protests, which brought thousands of people on to the streets to protest.
 	Many ordinary citizens protested in cities and towns across the country.
 	Women played a very important role in the protest.
 	Professional organisations also took part in the protest and refused to accept the president’s rule.

After  the removal of Omar al-Bashir, Sudan’s vice president and defence minister, Awad Ibn Ouf was made leader. The people felt cheated and continued protesting.

People wanted a civilian government and not another military ruler.
 	They continued protesting and for a second time the ruler was forced to leave.
 	The new head of Sudan’s military council, has now, said that a civilian government would be formed after discussions.

The people of Sudan are fighting for democracy and human rights, and common good for all people. This is not an easy fight but a start has been made.

As an Indian, we are proud that India is a democratic county. We can choose the best leader for ourselves. Please remind your elders to vote in the ongoing elections.

*autocratic - who behaves like a dictator and does not care for any opinion other than his own
