Supreme Court supports tribal rights!

Recommended for Middle Grades

Hello, inquisitive soul! Guess what? There’s some interesting news from the Supreme Court! They told the government of Manipur that they should include members of the Zo-Kuki tribes in the teams that supervise and manage relief camps.

Can you believe it?

Supreme Court Urges Inclusion and Improvements in Manipur

  • So, this person called Nizam Pasha, who is a lawyer, went to court and said, “Hey, guess what? Not even one person from the Zo-Kuki tribes is part of these supervisory teams!” There are seven teams, and they are in different districts like Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Imphal West, Kangpokpi, Kakching & Thoubal, and Tengnoupal. That’s a lot of teams, right?
  • The Supreme Court told the Manipur government that they should “duly consider” including members of the Zo-Kuki tribes in these teams. That means they should think about it seriously and maybe change their minds. The court thinks it’s a good idea to have people from different tribes in these teams. It will make the people in the relief camps feel better and more confident.
  • The court had some other interesting suggestions too! They said that families who have missing relatives should be allowed to see the bodies in the mortuaries. They also said there should be enough doctors and medical care in the hill districts. Oh, and they even suggested changing the person who chairs the command from the Chief Minister to someone else. The court thinks it will be a good idea to have this security adviser named Kuldeep Singh in charge.
  • So, it looks like the Supreme Court wants things to be better for the people in Manipur. They want everyone to be treated fairly and for the relief camps to have enough water, food, and other things. It’s important to take care of each other and help out when someone needs it. Hopefully, the government will listen to the court and make these funny suggestions a reality. Fingers crossed, right?
