2021 Australian Open

The Australian Open is a Grand Slam tennis tournament. The Grand Slam tournaments (also called majors) are the four most important annual tennis events. They are – the Australian Open, US Open, French Open and Wimbledon.

The 2021 Australian Open started on 8 February at Melbourne Park, Australia. It will go on till 21 February 2021. It is the first Grand Slam event played each year.

The 2021 Australian Open is the 109th edition of the tournament. It will have singles, doubles and mixed doubles events. There will also be wheelchair players competing in singles and doubles tournaments.

Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and American Sofia Kenin are the defending champions in Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles, respectively.

The tournament was originally scheduled for 18–31 January 2021 but was postponed to February due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

There are many COVID-19 restrictions in place this year. Various events before the tournament were cancelled. The number of spectators will also be limited to 30,000 per day, which is around 50% of normal spectator capacity.
