The European Space Agency is looking for new astronauts to join them

Last time, we read about NASA’s search for new astronauts. Now the European Space Agency (ESA) has also announced that it is hiring new astronauts. This is its first such search in 11 years.

People can start applying between 31 March and 28 May 2021. Applicants can be from any country within which is a member state of the ESA. The ESA has 22 member states, including the UK.

Applicants must be within the height range of 153 to 190 centimetres (five feet to six feet three inches). They should also be able to speak and read English.

The applicant must have a university degree in natural sciences, engineering or medicine. They should also be in good physical health and will preferably be 27-37 years of age.

After applying, there will be a six-stage selection process that is scheduled to end in October 2022.

ESA said that it is especially encouraging more women to apply as it wants to create more gender equality.

It is also encouraging disabled people to apply through the Parastronaut Feasibility Project. The ESA said that this is the first time that a space agency anywhere has opened the application process up to people with disabilities.
