The inspirational Asha BhosleToday is the birthday of legendary Indian playback singer, Asha Bhosle.

Asha Bhosle was born on 8th September 1933 in Sangli (now part of Maharashtra).
 	She is from a musical family. Her father was an actor and classical singer on Marathi Musical stage. Her siblings are also singers and the famous singer Lata Mangeshkar is her eldest sister.

Ms Bhosle has been married twice - at first to Ganpatrao Bhosle and the second time, to R.D. Burman.

She sang her first film song '"Chala Chala Nav Bala" for the Marathi film Majha Bal (1943).

Her first solo Hindi film song was for the movie Raat Ki Raani (1949).
 	Ms Bhosle has sung songs for films like Rangeela, Lagaan, Umrao Jaan and more
 	She has sung over 12,000 songs in more than 20 languages and many genres.
 	In 2011, Guinness Book of World Records recognised her as the most recorded artist in music history.

Ms Bhosle has received numerous awards over her lifetime including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008.

Apart from singing, she is also well known for her love of cooking and owns a chain of restaurants in India and abroad.
