The NBA is a basketball league based in the US. The NBA is watched by people around the world. It is so famous that many people can recognize it by its logo itself.

The NBA logo shows an image of a basketball player holding a ball in his left hand. But very few people know the logo is the figure of a real player. It is based on Jerry West, a legendary player of the team, Los Angeles Lakers.

Jerry was picked by the Lakers in the year 1960 as a guard (position of a player in the game). He never left the Lakers throughout his career. Moreover, Jerry also became a coach in the same team later.

With the Lakers, West became an NBA champion in 1972. He was the NBA all-star 14times and the scoring champion once in 1970. He was given the nickname “Mr Clutch". This name was due to his tremendous control on clutch shots.

Jerry received the Hall of Fame award and is one of the most regarded players in the basketball world. He is famous for his scoring ability. He was a person who could use any tactic when there was a need. Hence, putting him in the logo makes sense.

A man named Alan Siegel was given the task to make the logo. Incidentally, he chose the image of West as he found it most inspiring.
