The world’s smallest country is the Vatican CityThere are 195 countries in the world today.

Some of these are so small that even cities in other countries look like giants.

The world's smallest country by size (land area) is the Vatican City.

It is the centre of the Catholic Church (which is a part of Christianity).
 	It is also called the Holy See.
 	It has the biggest church in the world – St. Peter's Basilica.

The Pope, who is the leader of the Catholic Church, lives here.

This country fits inside Rome, the capital city of Italy.
 	Millions of visitors visit the country every year to view its art and architecture.
 	The city is run with contributions (donations) from Catholics (members of the Catholic Church) around the world and from tourists who visit this beautiful place.

Its area is 0.44 square km (less than half a kilometre) - compare that to The National Capital Territory of Delhi which covers an area of more than 1 thousand (1,484) square km!
