TIME magazine names Greta Thunberg as Person of the Year for 2019

Recommended for Awards and Honors

TIME magazine has named 16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg as its Person of the Year for 2019.

  • She is the youngest person to be chosen by the magazine for this honour.
  • Greta wrote on Twitter, “Wow, this is unbelievable! I share this great honour with everyone in the #FridaysForFuture movement and climate activists everywhere.”

In September this year, she gave a strong speech at the United Nations (UN) Climate Action Summit in New York, US. She is currently attending the COP25 (UN climate change summit) in Madrid, Spain.

TIME Person of the Year is an annual issue of the US news magazine TIME that features and profiles a person, a group, an idea, or an object that has done the most to influence the events of the year, for better or worse.
