Tokyo tops Safe Cities Index 2019

Tokyo tops Safe Cities Index 2019The Economist Intelligence Unit has released its Safe Cities Index (SCI) for 2019.

This index is a ranking of the world's safest cities. The list has 60 cities across the world. They are ranked in terms of their digital security, health security, infrastructure and personal safety.

According to the rankings, Tokyo is the safest city on the planet. It got a score of 92.0 out of a possible 100.

The world's 10 safest cities for 2019, according to SCI:
1. Tokyo, Japan
2. Singapore
3. Osaka, Japan
4. Amsterdam, the Netherlands
5. Sydney, Australia
6. Toronto, Canada
7. Washington DC, US
8. Copenhagen, Denmark
9. Seoul, South Korea
10. Melbourne, Australia

The top 3 cities on the list were also the top three in the two previous SCI rankings, conducted in 2015 and 2017.

Hong Kong, number 9 on the list in 2017, is down to number 20 this year due to the protests have been going on.
 	India's Mumbai and Delhi are at 45th and 52nd on the list, respectively.

Lagos in Nigeria, with a score of 38.1 is at the bottom at number 60.
The other four cities at the bottom 5 are Caracas in Venezuela, Yangon in Myanmar, Karachi in Pakistan and Dhaka in Bangladesh.

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) is a UK company that provides forecasting and advisory services, such as monthly or yearly country reports.

  The Economics Intelligence Unit has only reviewed 60 destinations across the world in terms of their digital security, health security, infrastructure and personal safety. Such reviews generally cover the cities, which have a lot of population – native and migrant (those who come from other countries) and also tourists. Greenland is a country, which is not on that list.
