Glacier burst in Uttarakhand
In a tragic disaster, a piece of a Himalayan glacier fell into a river and triggered a huge flood in Uttarakhand. At least 180 people are missing and 19 have died.
A glacier break or burst can occur due to erosion, a build-up of water pressure, an avalanche of snow or rocks, and also an earthquake under the ice.
The floodwaters burst open a dam. Hundreds of soldiers and rescue workers are working to help find and rescue people in the area. 13 villages in the area have also been affected.
