Two new NASA missions to explore Venus

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Venus is the second planet from the Sun. It is considered to be Earth’s “twin”. This is because it is also a rocky planet and is similar in size to Earth.

However, Venus’ atmosphere is quite different from Earth. It is also the hottest planet in the solar system.

Recently, NASA announced that it has chosen two missions to explore Venus. The missions will be launched in 2028 and 2030.

The first mission is called the DAVINCI+ mission. It stands for Deep Atmosphere Venus Investigation of Noble gases, Chemistry, and Imaging. It will measure Venus’ atmosphere. This will help us understand how it formed and evolved. DAVINCI+ also aims to study if Venus ever had an ocean.

VERITAS is the name of the second mission. VERITAS stands for Venus Emissivity, Radio Science, InSAR, Topography, and Spectroscopy. This mission will map Venus’ surface. It will help scientists understand how the planet formed and why it developed so differently from Earth.

NASA will be working with the German, Italian and French space agencies for the two missions.
