U.K. parliament elects Lindsay Hoyle as Speaker of House of Commons

U.K. parliament elects Lindsay Hoyle as Speaker of House of CommonsBritain's Parliament elected the Labour Party's Sir Lindsay Hoyle as Speaker of the House of Commons on Monday.

The previous Speaker John Bercow resigned over disagreements with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson over Brexit.

The Brexit issue has seen the Speaker play an important role in Parliament, for passing important laws related to it.
 	Sir Lindsay Hoyle has said that he will be neutral and transparent.
 	Sir Hoyle, who has been deputy speaker since 2010, beat fellow Labour Party MP Chris Bryant in the voting by 325 votes to 213.

Since 2017, the ruling Conservative Party has not had a majority in parliament. But the upcoming national elections on 12 December 2019 may change things.

The Speaker of the House of Commons is the presiding officer of the House of Commons, the UK's lower, but more influential, chamber of Parliament.

Unlike presiding officers of legislatures in many other countries (like India), Speakers remain strictly neutral.
 	They give up all ties with their former political parties when taking office and afterwards.
 	The Speaker does not take part in debate or vote, except in special circumstances.
