U.K. PM Johnson appoints Rishi Sunak as the U.K.’s new Finance Minister

U.K. PM Johnson appoints Rishi Sunak as the U.K.’s new Finance MinisterOn Thursday, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson appointed Rishi Sunak to be the UK's Chancellor of the Exchequer (Finance Minister).

Mr Sunak is the second person of Indian origin to join the top rung of the UK Cabinet after Priti Patel, the Home Secretary.
 	The previous Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sajid Javid (who is of Pakistani-origin) had resigned suddenly after the Conservative Party's big win in the last parliamentary elections.

Who is Rishi Sunak?

The 39-year-old was previously the Chief Secretary to the Treasury under Mr Javid.
 	He is currently the MP (Member of Parliament) for Richmond in Yorkshire and has been a strong supporter of Brexit.
 	Before he entered politics, Mr Sunak was the co-founder of a global investment firm.
 	Born in the UK, he studied at Oxford University, UK and Stanford University in the US.
 	Mr Sunak is also the son-in-law of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy.

He is now set to move into No. 11 Downing Street next to the Prime Minister's office (10 Downing Street). The Finance Minister is the second most important government position in the UK.
