U.S. might run out of money in June!

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Hey there curious readers! Do you know what debt is? It’s like when you borrow something from someone and you have to give it back later. Well, the United States has borrowed a lot of money and they need to pay it back, but they might not have enough money to do so!

Important Details

  • Janet Yellen, who is the boss of the money in the United States (kind of like how your parents are the boss of your allowance), told the people in charge of the government that they might run out of money to pay back what they borrowed as soon as June 1st! That’s not good!
  • If they don’t find a way to get more money, they might not be able to pay for important things like schools, hospitals, and even the army! Can you imagine if we didn’t have schools or doctors? That would be like living in the Stone Age!
  • But don’t worry, the government is working hard to figure out how to get more money. They might ask people to pay more taxes or they might borrow even more money! But they need to be careful because borrowing too much money can be dangerous, just like how eating too many cookies can make you sick.
  • So, it’s important for us to understand that money is something we need to be responsible with. Just like how you need to save your allowance for things you really want, the government needs to make sure they have enough money for things they really need. Let’s hope they figure it out soon, or else we might have to go back to using rocks for money!
