WHO gives approval for global use of first Ebola vaccineEarlier in the year, we've been reading about the Ebola outbreak in the African countries of Rwanda, DRC etc. Vaccines manufactured by pharmaceutical companies, Johnson and Johnson and Merck were introduced in the region to help counter the outbreak.

The Ervebo vaccine, developed by Merck was used to protect more than 250,000 people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and several other neighbouring countries from the deadly Ebola virus.
 	World Health Organization (WHO) has now verified that the treatment is safe for global use, and that it meets its health and safety standards.
 	This is the first vaccine proven to protect individuals 18 years of age or older at risk of infection with the Ebola virus.
 	Data from clinical trials have shown that only a single dose of the Ervebo vaccine is required to protect a person against Ebola virus disease.

A Geneva-based health organisation, the Gavi Vaccine Alliance is all set to distribute the Ervebo vaccine in low-income countries, now that WHO has approved it.
