Why we love Poetry?
Recommended for Foundational Grades
Poetry is a type of writing.
- Words are carefully arranged to create rhythm.
- In many ways, a poem is just like a song.
- It is a creative form of expression, where the language and words make it interesting to recite and hear.
Key facts!
- In writing, poetry is a style of expression that brings about a coloured understanding of an experience or specific feelings by the use of language that has been chosen and organised for its meaning, sound, and flow.
- Some well-known Indian poets are Rabindranath Tagore, Sarojini Naidu, Mira Bai and Kabir Das, among others. Little curious readers, have you heard of them?
- Nursery rhymes are also a form of poetry. The rhythms can be so exciting – and most children love to dance and move while singing rhymes. Poetry is fun to act out.
Have you heard of this one?
The itsy-bitsy spider climbed up the waterspout.
Down came the rain and washed the spider out.
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
And the itsy-bitsy spider climbed up the spout again.
