Winners of the National Film Awards 2019

Recommended for National Film Awards

The 66th National Film Awards have been announced today. Rahul Rawail, head of the Jury for feature films announced the winners. The date for the presentation of the awards will be announced later.

  • The National Film Awards are presented in two main categories – feature films (full films) and non-feature films (short films).
  • The Directorate of Film Festivals chooses a jury who selects the winners.
  • There were 419 films considered for the awards this year.
  • The National Film awards are given in 31 categories.
  • For the first time ever, there is an also award for a film-friendly state this year. This year’s winner is Uttarakhand.

Every year, the awards are announced in April and the ceremony is held in May. However, this year, the awards were postponed because of the Lok Sabha elections.

Here are some winners in prominent categories:

  • Best non-feature film: Son Rise by Vibha Bakshi and The Secret Life of Frogs by Ajay and Vijay Bedi
  • Best Educational Film: Sarala Virala
  • Best Director: Aditya Dhar for Uri : The Surgical Strike
  • Best Feature Film: Hellaro – a Gujarati film directed by Abhishek Shah
  • Best Actor: Ayushmann Khuranna for Andhadhunand Vicky Kaushal for Uri : The Surgical Strike
  • Best Actress: Keerthy Suresh for Mahanati
  • Best Supporting Actor – Swanand Kirkire for Chumbhak
  • Best supporting actress – Surekha Sikri for Badhaai Ho

Some other winners included:

  • Best Film for National Integration: Ondalla Eradalla (Kannada)
  • Best Popular Film: Badhaai Ho
  • Best film on Environment issues – Paani (it also received the award for Best Film on Environment Conservation/Preservation
  • Best film on Social IssuesPadman

The winners in the Children’s categories were:

  • Best Child artist:  P V Rohith (Kannada), Sameep Singh (Punjabi), Talha Arshad Reshi (Urdu) and Shrinivas Pokale (Marathi)
  • Best Children’s Film: Sarkari Area Prathamika Shaale Kasaragod

Apart from the above, awards were also given for the best regional movies in the following languages – Rajasthani, Tamil, Marathi, Hindi, Urdu, Telugu, Assamese, Punjabi.

There were also winners for various categories in Screenplay, Music and Production.
