World First Aid Day
Recommended for Preparatory Grades
Today is World First Aid Day.
World First Aid Day was started by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in 2000.
- This day is observed on the second Saturday of September every year and this year, that day falls on 14th September.
- We observe this day to spread awareness about the importance of first aid in saving lives.
- This year’s global theme is ‘First Response to Road Crashes’.
- Participants all over the world are encouraged to plan awareness campaigns and other programmes.
What is the meaning of first aid?
First aid is the first and immediate aid/help given to anyone suffering from a sudden injury or illness.
First aid does not always need to be performed by medical experts.
- In emergency situations, ordinary people often need to give first aid to save someone’s life.
- First aid is very important during the ‘golden hour’ and learning about it is important.
- It aims at addressing “The three Ps“- Preserve life, Prevent further harm and Promote Recovery.
