Hong Kong 

Hong Kong has been coming down harder than ever on pro-democracy activists recently. A new law was passed earlier by China that aims to stability to the territory after a year of protests. However, critics say it has silenced dissent (speaking against the government).

Three important pro-democracy activists have been jailed. Hong Kong businessman and pro-democracy supporter Jimmy Lai has also been charged with fraud and arrested.

COVID-19 update

Globally, over 64.5 million cases have been reported till now.

The UK has become the first country to allow the use of Pfizer and BioNTech’s COVID-19.

Japan has passed a law that will provide free COVID-19 vaccines to all its residents.

Spotify reveals 2020’s most-streamed songs

According to music streaming site Spotify, singers Drake, Bad Bunny, Dua Lipa and The Weeknd are among the most-streamed artists of 2020. Pop music was the most popular kind of music this year.

The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights was the most-played song worldwide.

Bad Bunny was the biggest artist globally and his songs were streamed around 8.3 billion times. His most popular song, Safaera, has alone been played 407 million times.

World’s deepest swimming pool

The world’s deepest swimming pool has opened in Poland. Called Deepspot, it is around 45 metres deep. It contains more than 20 times the amount as a regular 25-metre pool.

It will be used as a training and practice site for sea divers
