World Teacher’s Day – 5 October

World Teacher’s Day – 5 OctoberIn India, we celebrated Teacher's day on 5 September on the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, the former President of India.

However, for many other countries all over the world, World Teacher's Day, also known as International Teacher's Day, is celebrated every year on 5 October.

This day is celebrated to show appreciation for the work of teachers and improve the role of educators around the world.
 	This day also recalls the adoption of the International Labour Organisation /United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ILO/UNESCO) recommendation over the concern of the status of teachers.

World Teacher's Day was celebrated for the first time on 5 October 1994.

The theme for this year is Young Teachers: The future of Professions.

It aims to encourage more youngsters to enter the profession of teaching.
 	It is also included in the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. The United Nations recognizes that teachers are key players for the achievement of its Education 2030 agenda.
 	The day is celebrated in schools, colleges and universities in over 100 countries worldwide.
