Wrestler Sunil Kumar wins gold at Asian Wrestling Championships

Wrestler Sunil Kumar wins gold at Asian Wrestling ChampionshipsOn 18 February, wrestler Sunil Kumar won gold in the 87kg Greco-Roman wrestling category at the Asian Wrestling Championships 2020.

Sunil beat Azat Salidinov of Kyrgyzstan 5-0 to win the medal. He had won silver in the last year's competition.
 	This was India's first Greco-Roman gold medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships in 27 years.
 	The last Indian Greco-Roman wrestler to win gold at the Asian Championships was Pappyu Yadav who won the 48 kg title in 1993.

21-year old Arjun Halakurki also won bronze in the 55kg Greco-Roman category with a 7-4 win against Dong Hyeok Won of South Korea.

What is Greco-Roman (GR) wrestling?

It is one of the two forms of wrestling categories at the Olympics, the other being Freestyle. GR style of wrestling forbids holds below the waist (this is its main difference from Freestyle).

What is the Asian Wrestling Championships?

It is an Asia-level wrestling tournament organised by the Asian Associated Wrestling Committee (AAWC). It is held every year.
 	This year's edition is being held in New Delhi from 18 to 23 February 2020.
