Solar System Model: Spark Creativity with Kids’ Craft
Dear Prashikha, your solar system model is absolutely wonderful! The bright colors and the way you have arranged the planets around the sun are truly impressive. It’s clear that you have put a lot of thought and effort into this science project, and it shows!
Your model is a fantastic example of how kids’ crafts can be both fun and educational. Not only did you have a great time creating it, but you also learned about the different planets and their order in our solar system. This is a perfect STEM activity for young minds, sparking their curiosity about astronomy and science.
Let’s Make a Solar System Model Together!
Materials:
- A large piece of cardboard or foam board
- Paints or markers
- Small Styrofoam balls or other round objects (for planets)
- A larger ball (for the sun)
- Glue
- String or wire
- Optional: Glitter, sequins, or other decorations
Instructions:

Paint the Background: Paint the cardboard or foam board dark blue or black to represent space. You can add glitter or white dots for stars.

Create the Sun: Paint the largest ball yellow or orange to represent the sun. Let it dry completely.

Make the Planets: Paint the smaller balls different colors to represent the planets. You can look up pictures of the planets to get the colors right. Let them dry.

Assemble the Solar System: Glue the sun to the center of the board. Then, arrange the planets around the sun in their correct order, starting with Mercury closest to the sun and ending with Neptune (or Pluto, if you want to include it!).

Hang the Planets: Attach string or wire to the planets and hang them from the cardboard or foam board at different lengths, so they appear to be orbiting the sun.

Decorate: Add any other decorations you like, such as asteroids, comets, or even a spaceship!
