Kumaran Asan – Indian Poet
The month of April is known as National Poetry Writing Month or NaPoWriMo. As we celebrate NaPoWriMo, let’s celebrate a poet each day, and understand their way of writing poetry.
Kumaran Asan was a famous Indian poet who lived in the early 1900s. He was born in Kerala, a state in southern India, and is known for his beautiful poems about nature, love, and spirituality.
Legacy of Kumaran Asan
As a young boy, Kumaran Asan was interested in literature and started writing poems when he was just 16 years old. He was inspired by the natural beauty around him and often wrote about the hills, rivers, and forests of Kerala.
Kumaran Asan’s most famous work is called “Chandalabhikshuki,” which means “the outcaste’s hunger.” It is a long poem that tells the story of a woman who is treated badly by society because of her low social status. Kumaran Asan wrote this poem to raise awareness about the injustices faced by the lower castes in India.
In addition to his poetry, Kumaran Asan was also a social reformer. He worked to improve education and healthcare for the people of Kerala, and was a strong advocate for women’s rights.
Today, Kumaran Asan is remembered as one of the greatest poets in Indian history. His poems continue to inspire people all over the world with their beauty and message of love and social justice.
