Hey there, curious minds! We have some fascinating news to share with you today. Are you ready to dive into the exciting world of archaeology? Great! Let’s get started.

In a small village called Poothinatham, located in the Dharmapurai district of Tamil Nadu, something incredible was recently discovered. Can you guess what it might be? Well, it’s a special tool that people from a long, long time ago used! It’s called a celt, and it belongs to the Neolithic period, which means it’s really, really old.

The celt was found by a group of amazing archaeologists who were digging and exploring the area. They work for the Tamil Nadu Department of Archaeology. Archaeologists are like detectives who try to solve mysteries from the past. Mr. A. Sivananandam, who is the Deputy Director of the Department, said that this discovery is very important. Can you guess why?

Important Details

  • This celt was used by ancient people as either a plough or an axe. Isn’t that cool? It means they used it for farming or cutting things. Imagine how different their lives were back then compared to ours! The celt is made of a special kind of stone called Doloraid. It’s not like the stones you see in the park or on the beach. This stone is strong and durable, perfect for the tasks our ancestors needed it for.
  • Now, let’s talk about how and when this celt was found. On June 10, while digging about 36 centimeters beneath the surface, the archaeologists made an incredible discovery. They unearthed the celt, and it’s 22 centimeters long. That’s about the length of a ruler you use in school! The celt has a maximum width of 4.2 centimeters and a minimum width of 3.2 centimeters. It’s amazing how such a small tool can hold so much history, isn’t it?
  • So, dear readers, this discovery in Poothinatham village takes us on a journey back in time to the Neolithic era. We get to learn about how people in the past used tools like the celt for their daily activities. Isn’t it fascinating to uncover the secrets of our ancestors and understand how they lived? Keep your eyes open, because you never know what amazing discoveries might be waiting to be found next!
  • Remember to stay curious and keep exploring the world around you. Who knows, maybe one day you’ll become an archaeologist and make incredible discoveries of your own!
