China’s new bullet train can operate in extremely cold climates
China is the fourth-largest country in the world by size. It is so huge that different parts of the country can experience different types of climate. The northern areas are quite cold while the southern areas can be warm and humid.
Recently, China launched a new high-speed bullet train which is designed for extremely cold climates.

The train, called CR400AF-G, can operate at speeds of up to 350 kilometres per hour (217 mph) in temperatures as low as -40 degrees Celsius. It has been developed and operated by the China State Railway Group.
The train was launched in the capital, Beijing, on 6 January. It will run on a new high-speed line connecting Beijing with other cities in China’s northeastern region like Shenyang and Harbin (which is famous for its annual snow and ice festival).

The train has many features that can help it withstand freezing temperatures. This includes bolts made with a chromium-molybdenum alloy. This can endure extremely low temperatures. It also has silicone sealing strips, which prevent snow and ice from getting into the train body.
