‘Rainbow Grandpa’ saves village by painting buildings with colourful art

Rainbow Grandpa is a 97-year-old ex-soldier who saved his village in Taiwan from demolition*.

The village is called Rainbow Village. The village is named so because is filled with colourful art.

 

  • Rainbow Village was originally a poor village which was set to be demolished.
  • 10 years ago, Grandpa Rainbow, whose real name is Huang Yung-Fu, began painting art on his house. Now his paintings have filled the village.
  •  He started to paint because he was lonely and wanted to save his village.

Due to his efforts, the government decided not to demolish the village and now it is a famous tourist spot.

Rainbow Grandpa still continues to paint every day. Isn’t it inspiring?

 

*Demolition: To completely destroy a building to build something else.
