7.8-magnitude earthquake jolts Turkey!

7.8-magnitude earthquake jolts Turkey!A powerful earthquake struck the southeast corner of Turkey, close to the border with Syria. People were asleep when the quake hit.

According to news reports, many people are impacted by the earthquake.

According to the USGS (US Geological Survey), the quake registered a magnitude of 7.8.
It occurred in the general vicinity of the city of Gaziantep at a depth of 17.9 kilometres.
The epicentre of the earthquake was located near the city of Gaziantep in Turkey.
It was also felt by millions of people across Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Cyprus, and Israel.
A large number of buildings have been demolished.
Furthermore, search and rescue teams are looking for people who may be buried alive under the debris.
The Turkish government authorities stated that ten cities were impacted by the crisis.
A shopping mall in the city of Diyarbakir was also destroyed in the earthquake.
Moreover, Lebanon and Cyprus also reported feeling the earthquake's effects.
According to experts, Turkey is home to one of the most seismically active regions in the entire world.
The affected provinces in Turkey have been placed under a state of emergency.
In addition, the government is pleading with residents not to use their mobile phones so that rescue workers can communicate more effectively.
