Could a bath end your life?

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

After taking a bath for the first time in decades, “the dirtiest man in the world,” Amou Haji, dies. The Iranian resided in the province of Fars in the country’s south.

He had previously avoided efforts to cleanse himself of his filthy habits.

Key facts!

  • Elderly Amou Haji,  the “dirtiest man in the world”—an Iranian man who went decades without bathing—died at the age of 94.
  • Local villagers state that Haji had avoided showering out of fear of “becoming sick.”
  • However, villagers had taken him to a bathroom to wash for the first time two months earlier.
  • Haji’s unusual behaviour was attributed to “emotional setbacks” in his youth.
  • Haji ate a rotten porcupine and smoked an animal waste pipe.
  • A documentary titled “The Strange Life of Amou Haji” was filmed in 2013.
  • As he had not bathed in years his skin became coated in “soot and pus”.
  • Additionally, his diet consisted of rotting meat and filthy water that he drank from an old oil can.

Dr Binocs from Peekaboo Kids shares with us the importance of bathing.
