COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin recommended for children in India

Recommended for Middle Grades

India saw the lowest daily rise in COVID-19 cases since early March. It recorded 14,313 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. Kerala is currently reporting the highest number of cases in the country.

The country has reported over 3.39 crore COVID-19 cases so far. The government aims to fully vaccinate 108 crore people by the end of this year.

An expert panel today has recommended Covaxin (Bharat Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine) – for use on children between the ages of 2 and 18. This is the second vaccine recommended for kids in India. However, the Drug Controller General of India will be the one to give the final approval.

A third potential vaccine for kids is Serum Institute’s Novavax.

The situation globally

Around 23.82 crore COVID-19 cases have been reported globally. The US has reported the highest number of cases.

On Monday, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended an additional dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for people with a weaker immune system.

Singapore says that it will reopen its borders to visitors from another 9 countries without the need for quarantine. They include the United States of America and Canada.
