Researchers discover “Lord of the Rings”-like frog!

Recommended for Ecuador

A frog that looks like it came straight out of “Lord of the Rings” was found in the mountains of Ecuador. The frog has eyes that are a pale pink colour and toes that are spotted with gold.

It also appears to have been transported directly from Middle-earth. Because of this, the researchers who found it gave it the name “Hyloscirtus Tolkien” or “H.Tolkien.”

What is Lord of the Rings?

The Lord of the Rings is an epic, high-fantasy novel by the English writer and scholar J. R. R. Tolkien.

The frog was discovered in a National Park that covers more than 185,000 acres. This particular frog calls the mountain rivers and streams of the National Park it’s home.

Adult stream frogs prefer the protection of lush vegetation on the river banks, whereas tadpoles mature near rocks in the rapids.
