The Pulitzer Prize is a US award for achievements in journalism and arts. They include newspaper, magazine and online journalism, literature and musical composition.

Late newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer created the award while Columbia University presents the award. They present the award in 22 categories every year. It is considered to be one of the most prestigious prizes in the world.

This year, Megha Rajagopalan won the prize in the International Reporting category. She is a US journalist of Indian origin. And she works for BuzzFeed News.

This year, Rajagopalan also shares the award with two other people. They are Alison Killing and Christo Buschek. They received the award for their investigation to uncover China’s human rights abuse of its Muslim minority in the Xinjiang region. Through their reporting, they showed how the government has set up huge prisons and camps to imprison lakhs of Muslims.

Moreover, another Indian-origin journalist, Neil Bedi, also won the Pulitzer this year. He and Kathleen McGrory won for local reporting. They won for investigating a police programme that was illegally monitoring people, including children.
