ISRO is conducting this course through the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS). It will help students learn about how technology is used to study Earth and its environment.
Details about the course
This online course aims to raise awareness among students about remote sensing technology and its uses. Any Indian student studying in Classes 10, 11 and 12 can apply. The course itself is from 26 to 30 July 2021.
So, every day, they will have two lectures, which participants can watch on the IIRS YouTube channel. And they will have a quiz every day too. So, if you are interested and eligible, you can check out the details here. You have to apply by 20 July 2021.
Moreover, IIRS is also conducting other free online courses for college students and others. They include courses on Machine Learning and Earth Observation for Carbon Cycle Studies.
What is remote sensing?
Remote sensing is the process of detecting and monitoring the physical characteristics of an area from a satellite or aircraft. For example, cameras on satellites take images of large areas on the Earth’s surface.
So, through this, we can map large forests from space. Moreover, it also helps in predicting the weather or mapping the ocean floor.
