Recommended for Middle Grades

We read about the winners of Nobel Prize for Medicine yesterday.

Today, the committee announced the winners of the 2019 Nobel Prize for Physics.

They awarded it to three scientists –  James Peebles for theoretical discoveries in physical cosmology, and Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz for discovering an exoplanet orbiting a solar-type star.

  • James Peebles is an American-Canadian physicist whose work forms the foundation of our modern understanding of the universe’s history, from the beginning to the present day.
  • In 1995, Swiss astrophysicist Michel Mayor and astronomer Didier Queloz discovered the first exoplanet orbiting a solar-type star, 51 Pegasi.
  • The Nobel Assembly at Sweden’s Royal Academy of Sciences said that “the discoveries have forever changed our conceptions of the world“.

The Nobel Prizes will be presented in Sweden on 10 December 2019.

They will announce the award for Chemistry tomorrow.
