The Most Recent Survey of the Milky Way Reveals an Incredible 3.32 Billion Stellar Objects.

A recently published picture took two years to create. The image shows a staggering 3.32 billion heavenly objects. This breathtaking image of outer space was captured by an observatory nearly seven thousand feet above sea level.

Key facts!

  • According to astronomers, the image provides us with more information than we have ever had before regarding the Milky Way.
  • It covers approximately 6.5 per cent of the entire night sky.
  • In addition, it focuses on the galactic plane of the Milky Way.
  • This is where the vast majority of the galaxy’s celestial objects can be found.
  • The telescope used to capture the image used both optical and near-infrared wavelengths.
  • The researchers also made use of specialised techniques to improve the background of each star.
  • Thus, this allowed for a greater number of stars to be observed with greater clarity.
  • This ultimately contributed to an improvement in the picture’s overall precision.
  • This, of course, provides us with insights into the process by which the universe came into existence.
  • For the next several decades, astronomers will spend a lot of time analysing this detailed depiction of more than three billion stars that make up the Milky Way.
