We celebrate this day to raise awareness about the rights of consumers as well as their responsibilities. It also aims to increase awareness about the Consumer Protection Act. 
The date of 24 December for National Consumer Day was chosen because it was on this day the Consumer Protection Act, of 1986 was enacted.

This Act protects consumers against various types of exploitation like defective goods, bad services and unfair trade practices. It puts rules into place which prevent such things from happening.
Key facts!

As a consumer, it is our right to expect that the goods we buy are safe and will not harm us.
The civil supplies and consumer affairs department celebrates National Consumer Rights Day by educating consumers about their rights.
Because of how quickly e-commerce has grown, the Consumer Protection Act had to be updated.
This change was finally signed into law on August 6, 2019.
The best way to celebrate this day is to make more people in your community aware of the event.
You could hold seminars and educate people about their rights as consumers.
In addition share advice on how they can protect themselves.
People who break the rules can also be called out in public by using social media or just telling the people around them.
You can also try to talk to groups that help consumers.
Thus you can use the law to stop the people who are breaking the rules and protect yourself and others.
In return, these groups can help you protect yourself and other people.
