New Zealand’s Prime Minister resigns, citing exhaustion. Jacinda Ardern has announced that she will step down from her position before the election scheduled for 2023.

She stated she does not have the energy to continue serving as a Prime Minister. Ms Ardern is 42 years old. She expressed that she took time to reflect on her life and career.

She hoped of rediscovering the passion and vigour necessary to continue as a Prime Minister. But that hasn’t happened. She feels she would be doing a disservice to New Zealand if she continues.

The members of New Zealand’s Parliament will vote to select her successor. According to political analysts, her party could have a challenging time winning the re-election in 2023. Ms Ardern plans to resign by the 7th of February.

Her successor will need to get approval from nearly two-thirds of those present in her party.
