Pablo Picasso grew up in Spain where he was born on October 25, 1881.  His father was a painter and art teacher. Pablo liked to draw from an early age. 

Picasso was a very famous painter indeed. Amazingly, at the young age of 9, Picasso completed his first painting. The name of the painting was Le picador, which was a man riding a horse in a bullfight.

His first major painting was First Communion, which was a portrait of his father, mother, and younger sister kneeling before an altar. Picasso was 15 when he finished it. After that, he never looked back.

  • He had 23 words in his name. Generally, he was called by his first and last name, Pablo Picasso.
  • Picasso’s name is Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Martyr Patricio Clito Ruíz y Picasso.
  • The “Picasso” is actually from his mother, Maria Picasso y Lopez. The name of his father was Jose Ruiz Blasco. All other words in his name are the name of the saints,
  • Picasso Nearly Died at Birth
  • Picasso had a difficult birth. He was born too weak.
  • As a result, the midwife thought him dead. Therefore she left him to go and look after Picasso’s mother.
  • His uncle, who was a doctor, saved him. 
  • Picasso’s first word was “piz”.
  • It is short for “lapis” the Spanish word for pencil.
