Quad Summit

Earlier, we read about PM Modi’s visit to the United States. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently in the US for the Quad Summit. This summit is a meeting of the top leaders of India, Japan, Australia and the US.

US President Joe Biden will be hosting the first in-person Quad Summit on 24 September 2021 (tomorrow in the US). This is PM Modi’s first visit to the United States since Joe Biden became the President of the US. It will also be Modi’s first in-person meeting with Biden.

As a run-up to the Quad Summit, PM Modi is meeting with other important officials too. He met US Vice-President Kamala Harris in the US capital, Washington DC. Kamala Harris is the first woman, the first Black person and the first Indian-American to become the Vice President of the US. This is the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders.

PM Modi also held talks with other Quad Summit members, PM Scott Morrison and Japan’s PM Yoshihide Suga. Moreover, he met with the CEOs (Chief Executive Officers) of companies such as Qualcomm, Adobe, and General Atomics.

What next?

PM Modi is on his seventh visit to the US since assuming office in 2014. After this, he will travel to New York and address the UN General Assembly.
