In a thrilling finish, Manchester City overcame a two-goal deficit to claim the Premier League 2022 championship with a 3-2 victory over Aston Villa.

What is the Premier League?

The Premier League is the highest level of professional football competition. Twenty different teams participate in a total of 38 matches.

How does the scoring work in the Premier League?

If a team wins, it receives three points; if its a draw, both the teams get a point each. In the event, that a team loses it doesn’t get any points. At the end of the season, the team that has the most points wins the Premier League title.

Key highlights from the game!

  • Manchester City nearly lost their chances at winning the trophy as it required three goals late in the second half to fight back and win 3-2 over Aston Villa.
  • Matty Cash’s spectacular header from a Lucas Digne cross gave Aston Villa the lead in the 37th minute, which really stunned the crowd at the Etihad Stadium. Philippe Coutinho extended Aston Villa’s advantage, and the previously tense atmosphere among the home supporters shifted to one of desperation.
  • Ollie Watkins contributed with a header off a goal kick taken by Olsen, and the once with Liverpool midfielder delivered an outstanding first touch and finish.
  • But then City launched their comeback offensive, which ultimately clinched the deal on winning the title.
  • After being brought on as a substitute, Ilkay Gundogan scored a goal by heading in a cross from Raheem Sterling at the far post in the 76th minute.
  • This was followed by Rodri’s goal, which was a perfect finish after Oleksandr Zinchenko had set him up.
  • Gundogan scored the game-winning goal in the 81st minute when De Bruyne sent a low cross his way and he tapped it in from close range to throw the crowd into a frenzy of ecstatic joy. This goal won the championship.
