Sparkling Surprise: Diamond Grown with Love!

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Hey there, folks! Today we’ve got a sparkling story that combines eco-friendliness, technology, and a touch of artistic elegance. Brace yourselves for PM Modi’s gift to U.S. First Lady Jill Biden—a dazzling lab-grown diamond!

So, this 7.5-carat wonder is not your ordinary diamond—it’s eco-friendly! Yep, solar and wind power were used to create this beauty. Kudos to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for thinking green!

This fabulous diamond, carefully crafted with cutting-edge technology, emits a minuscule 0.028 grams of carbon per carat. That’s like having a carbon footprint so tiny, it can dance on the head of a pin! And guess what? It’s certified by the prestigious International Gemological Institute. Talk about quality!

Eco-friendly Innovation: PM Modi’s Lab-Grown Diamond

  • Now, why is India so invested in lab-grown diamonds, you ask? Well, the government is all about promoting homegrown talent. They’ve taken steps like eliminating customs duty on LGD seeds and granting research funds to the Indian Institutes of Technology. Innovation and indigenous production, here we come!
  • Lab-grown diamonds are made using two fancy technologies—High Pressure High Temperature and Chemical Vapour Deposition. And guess what? India is rocking the CVD game! We’re one of the leading producers in the world, with a whopping 25.8% share. That’s diamond power!

  • But, we do have a small hitch. We depend on other countries for critical machinery components and seeds. Time to change that! The India Centre for Lab-grown Diamond is in the works, with a budget of around ₹242.96 crore over five years. This will boost the LGD business and support our fabulous entrepreneurs.
  • Hold up! Lab-grown diamonds aren’t just for looking glamorous. They have diverse applications! They can be used in computer chips, satellites, 5G networks—you name it. Talk about multitasking diamonds! The market for lab-grown diamond jewelry is expected to reach $5 billion by 2025 and a staggering $15 billion by 2035. Bling bling, baby!

  • Oh, and let’s not forget the exquisite Kashmiri papier-mâché box that holds this marvellous gem. It’s a masterpiece in itself! Skilled artisans work their magic, meticulously painting elaborate designs. And you know what? Kashmiri papier-mâché has a fancy Geographical Indication (GI) tag. It’s like a super-exclusive club for products with top-notch quality and distinctiveness.
  • The GI tag comes with some serious perks! Once a product gets it, no one else can use the same name. It’s a legal shield against copycats! Basmati rice, Darjeeling Tea, and even Kashmir Walnut Wood Carving have this tag. It’s all about protecting tradition and promoting exports.

  • And there you have it, folks! PM Modi’s gift to the First Lady is not just a sparkling piece of art but a symbol of India’s commitment to eco-friendly innovation and artistic excellence. It’s a shining example of how we can make the world a better place—one diamond at a time. Keep sparkling, everyone!
